Welcome to the ADSA Dark Sky Experiences Map. This is an interactive guide designed to help you to explore and connect with vast wonders of the night sky. Each layer offers a different set of experiences.
Official Dark Sky Places
These are communities, parks, and protected areas dedicated to preserving and protecting darkness. They are officially certified by the International Dark Sky Places program.
Clubs & Societies
Astronomical organisations for people interested in observing the night sky together. Most clubs and societies offer memberships that cater to people of all ages and levels of interest.
Guided Dark Sky Activities
Experiences that are led by night sky experts or enthusiasts who will guide and enrich your exploration of the night sky. These activities often feature telescope or naked-eye stargazing tours, astrophotography sessions, educational talks, and other unique nighttime experiences. These activities typically require bookings in advance.
Self-Guided Dark Sky Activities
Independent experiences that allow you to explore the night sky at your own pace. Many of these activities encourage you to travel to national parks, scenic lookouts, or other designated viewing areas with breathtaking night sky views and minimal light pollution. No bookings are required.
Observatories
A site equipped with telescopes and specialised equipment to observe the night sky. While many are primarily used for scientific research, they often host public showcase nights.
Accommodation & Campsites
Overnight stays that are based in prime locations for stargazing, or feature amazing views of the night sky as part of their experience.
Dark Sky Events
Weekly, monthly, or yearly events that are hosted to celebrate and showcase the wonder of the night sky.
