VALUING DARKNESS

 ROUNDTABLE

ADSA and DCCEW Host National Light Pollution Roundtable

The Australasian Dark Sky Alliance (ADSA) and the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (DCCEW) are excited to host a pivotal roundtable event, building on the momentum of the released National Light Pollution Guidelines. These guidelines, ratified by countries worldwide, are a landmark step toward protecting biodiversity and preserving the integrity of our night skies.

This roundtable brings together Australia’s leading minds in light management, including policymakers, urban planners, lighting designers, environmental advocates, and researchers. The goal? To discuss actionable next steps to reduce light pollution—one of the fastest-growing environmental threats on the planet.

Key questions to address include:
- Policy: How can we develop and implement policies that effectively mitigate light pollution?
-  People: What role does public awareness and behavior play in driving change?
- Planning: How can we integrate light-sensitive design into urban and regional planning standards?

By uniting expertise across disciplines, this event aims to chart a course for Australia to lead the way in tackling light pollution. Whether it’s through policy, technology, or grassroots action, every step we take brings us closer to reclaiming the beauty of our natural night and protecting our ecosystems.

Do you know someone who should be part of this conversation?
While this is an invitation-only event, we welcome suggestions for additional participants. If you believe someone should be attending, please email us at outreach@ausdarksky.org to let us know.
