What Would You Say to a Decision-Makers?
If you had the chance to speak directly to the people shaping the future of our night environment what would you say?
Could we implement lighting curfews for non-essential areas, like turning off office building lights overnight or dimming park lights during low-use hours?
Can we prioritize funding and policies to support Dark Sky Places in our region?
Could businesses be incentivised or regulated to install lighting that reduces light pollution?
As part of the Valuing Darkness Symposium (March 19–21, 2025), the Australasian Dark Sky Alliance is hosting an exciting roundtable discussion—a unique opportunity to bring together experts, decision-makers, and advocates to tackle one of today’s most pressing issues: light pollution.
This isn’t your average meeting—it’s a gathering of minds from all walks of life. Business leaders, government officials, urban planners, industry representatives, scientists, astronomers, and conservationists will come together with one shared goal: finding real, actionable ways to reduce light pollution and preserve our night skies.
We’ll dive into topics like:
Policy and Planning: How can councils and governments create smarter, enforceable lighting policies?
Innovative Solutions: What are the latest technologies that can help us reduce wasted light?
Community Action: How can we inspire everyday people, businesses, and neighborhoods to see the value in darkness?
Protecting Nature: What steps must we take to save wildlife and ecosystems from harmful artificial light?
But here’s the best part—this isn’t just for the experts in the room. You can be part of the conversation too by signing up as a delegate.
Taking place at the Melbourne City Conference Centre from March 19–21, 2025. The event will also feature hands-on workshops, inspiring talks, and networking opportunities with people who share your passion for preserving the night sky.
With only 40 delegate spots remaining, now is the time to register! Don’t miss this chance to connect with like-minded individuals and play an active role in protecting natural darkness.
