About the event

Join us for After Dark, hosted by the Australasian Dark Sky Alliance, an enchanting evening celebrating the beauty of our night skies. This charity event aims to raise funds and awareness for light pollution – the fastest growing pollutant in the world, and one that we can immediately take steps to resolve!

After Dark features a range of activities including community stargazing, engaging talks, and immersive planetarium experiences.

Highlights include:

-  a fascinating talk by Professor Fred Watson, Australia's Astronomer at Large, on the wonders of the universe,

- an insightful discussion on light pollution by Marnie Ogg.

- the art of astrophotography from Dr Angel Lopez-Sanchez,

- insights into our nocturnal animals with the Northern Beaches Coastal Education Centre.

- the rich astronomical traditions of Indigenous cultures with Dr Bob Fuller,

- images by Luke Vadaker of the northern beaches dark skies

You can also enjoy an incredible planetarium show by Gary Star at an additional cost.

Planetarium Shows:

Sizing Up Space

How big is the distance between the Earth and the Sun - or between the Sun and the other planets?

Discover the Light Year, the very large 'ruler' that scientists use to measure the size of Space.

Be amazed by the ever-increasing distances to the nearest stars, to the edge of the Milky Way and to the farthest galaxies

There's something for everyone – don’t miss out on this unforgettable celebration of our natural darkness and the opportunity to make a positive impact on our environment!

Doors open 5.30pm - close 9pm.
