Terms and Conditions for Paddy Palin Potential Dark Sky Place-Maker Grant
Recipients
These Terms and Conditions outline the requirements for the Paddy Palin Potential Dark Sky Place-Maker Grant (“Grant”), provided through the Australasian Dark Sky Alliance (ADSA). This Grant supports individuals working towards the creation of dark sky places in Australia by covering specific expenses for attending the 2025 Valuing Darkness Conference and Dark Sky Place Making Workshop.
1. Grant Overview
This Grant provides funding for five (5) recipients actively involved in dark sky advocacy. Each recipient will receive:

Travel Expenses: $600 per delegate.

Symposium Delegate Fees: Complimentary delegate registrations for two days valued at $425 per person.

Workshop Access: Complimentary entrance to the Dark Sky Place-Making Workshop valued at $90 per person.
2. Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Grant, applicants must:

Be Australian residents aged 18 years or older.

Have a commitment to dark sky advocacy, particularly to the creation or support of dark sky places in Australia.

Commit to attending the entire conference from 19–21 March 2025.

Commit to promoting Valuing Darkness prior to the start date.
3. Application and Selection Process

Application Process: Complete an online form by 15 December 2024. The form requires the following:

Dark Sky Place Details: Provide information on your potential dark sky place, including its location and current status (e.g., initial concept, contact made with Dark Sky International, or application underway).

Personal Statement: In no more than 300 words, describe the benefits a dark sky place would bring to your community, why this is meaningful to you, and who will be involved in the initiative.

Review Process: A judging panel, including a representative from Paddy Palin and ADSA, will review applications based on commitment to dark sky initiatives and community impact.

Announcement: Selected recipients will be notified by 15 January 2025. The panel’s decision is final.
4. Grant Usage and Obligations

Attendance: Recipients must attend all days of the conference and participate in all designated events.

Social Media Commitment: Recipients agree to a minimum of five (5) posts on social media prior to the conference and one follow-up post on LinkedIn after the event. Social posts must include the terms #ValuingDarkness @PaddyPalin and @AustralasianDarkSkyAlliance
5. Conditions of Funding

Non-Transferability: The Grant is non-transferable, non-exchangeable for cash, and valid for one participant only. Additional participants from the same area may attend as full fee-paying delegates.

Unused Funding: If a recipient cannot attend, they must notify ADSA immediately. Unused funds may be redirected to future dark sky initiatives.
6. Code of Conduct
Recipients are expected to:

Maintain professional conduct throughout the conference.

Represent ADSA, Paddy Palin, and the dark sky community positively.
7. Publicity and Acknowledgment

Use of Name and Likeness: Recipients grant permission for ADSA and Paddy Palin to use their name, likeness, and presentation excerpts for promotional purposes related to dark sky initiatives.
